Scheduled news overview

General concept

If you use either an approval workflow or the publish-by-date functionality of Linchpin Enterprise News, you’ll end up having news waiting for publication. The news scheduling overview lets you access those.

Where to find the news scheduling overview

Within your user menu which is usually located in the upper right area of your header (depending on your theme), you will find an entry called News scheduling overview. Click on it to access the overview.

This menu entry is visible to all users, no matter if they wrote news before or not. The news shown in the overview will of course respect permissions. Each user will only see what they are supposed to see.

Filtering news in the overview

The Overview consists of a table of entries. If there’s a lot of news items, you’ll be able to page through them and set the amount of news shown on one page to your liking. Also, you can sort them by each column, simply click on the column’s header.

There are three filter options available above the table.

The input field on the top left is a combined search and filter field. Enter whatever you are looking for, and the table will show you entries matching your search criteria. You could for example enter an authors name, a space name or a date to look for specific entries.

Space filter

The second input field is dedicated to filtering spaces. In an environment with gazillions of news publishing spaces, as some of our customers have, it’s important to be able to filter down to news from one or several spaces. To make that easier, we introduced the dedicated space filter.

Status filter

The status filter is initially set to only show scheduled news or news with pending approvals. You can change this filter to your liking. Just select the status (or multiple ones) which you want to see schedules news of. In the screenshot above, this filter is currently empty to show all news.

Time zone support

Wherever there’s a date or a date and time, Linchpin Enterprise News will show it to you in your time zone. To find out what time zone you are located in, we take a look at your browser’s settings. (Your browser on the other hand takes this info from your computer’s settings.)

There is a separate setting in your Confluence user profile settings for the time zone. If this setting differs from the time zone you have set on your computer, we will ignore the Confluence setting and go with your computer setting.

Who can see whose scheduled news?

Regular users, i.e. without administrative Confluence privileges and without being a member of the team of authors in the “News Workflow” can only view, edit and publish their own scheduled news posts (the latter only if no approval workflow is active).

If you want regular users to be able to view the scheduled news posts of other users, then you have to add the users to the team of authors in the space configuration under the tab “News Workflow“. If no team of authors have yet been entered in the relevant space, this would be the right time to do so.
