Linchpin’s Future
After Atlassian’s End of Life Announcement for Data Center

We are also surprised by Atlassian’s sudden announcement that it is ending support for Data Center on March 28th 2029. Atlassian itself said that DC was an important building block. But the future lies in the cloud. And apparently, the transition from Data Center to Cloud has progressed faster than expected.
Atlassian has been pursuing a cloud-first strategy for years and investing heavily in the subscription-based Atlassian Cloud. Against this backdrop, the announcement does not come as a complete surprise — yet for many companies, it represents a turning point that raises questions, uncertainties, and planning challenges.
Over the next few years, Atlassian will be phasing out Data Center in stages to give customers plenty of time to prepare. If you’re currently using Data Center, here’s what you need to know about the timeline and what each step means.
We are here to support you during this transition phase — with experience, clarity, and an eye for what’s important to you.
March 30, 2026 –
First Milestone
Starting on this date:
-
New customers will no longer be able to purchase Data Center.
-
New Data Center licenses will no longer be sold.
-
Marketplace apps for Data Center will no longer be available to new customers.
March 30, 2028 – Transition for Existing Customers
Two years later, changes roll out for existing customers:
-
Current customers won’t be able to buy new licenses.
-
Expansions of existing Data Center licenses will no longer be possible.
-
Marketplace apps for Data Center will no longer be available to existing customers.
March 28, 2029 –
End of Life
This is the final step in the journey:
-
All Data Center subscriptions will expire.
-
Environments for impacted products will become read-only.
👉 In short: if you’re not already using Data Center by this point, you won’t be able to start fresh with it.
👉 This is the time to plan ahead. If you’re still on Data Center, you’ll want to start exploring alternatives and migration options.
